Temperature related expansion and contraction on tiles

Saint-Gobain Weber Hong-Kong

When inconstant weather and sudden cold come could cause ceramic tiles popping and cracking on wall or floor. The weather changes could have caused the tiles and the substrate to contract and expand at different rates, stress forces build up over time to eventually exceed the bond strength of the adhesive, and loss of adhesion between tiles and the substrate. Another reason is the insufficient joint width during tile installation, without enough room for the tile assembly to expand, it will pop up and cracking easily.

Solutions: use fixing materials that could tolerate some movement

We recommend using flexible tile adhesive to reduce the chances of tiles cracking -  weberset 383 is highly deformable cementitious flexible tile adhesive with EN12004 C2TE S1 class which tolerate movement, compensate for the shrinkage in the substrate.
