Bathroom waterproofing

Saint-Gobain Weber Hong-Kong

What is waterproofing?

Areas constantly subject to moisture, such as bathrooms, kitchen areas etc., must be waterproofed in order to prevent leakage of water into neighbouring areas. Because water can do a lot of damage to a residential building, particularly when it goes undetected for a long period of time. If a wet area is not waterproofed or is not waterproofed correctly, water can seep out undetected into other areas of the home. This can cause mould growth, corrosion of plumbing and tile debonding.

Why is waterproofing necessary?

  • Stops leaks – provides a watertight seal that will prevent water leaking through any cracks /gaps in floors and walls.
  • Prevents damp and mould, adds a waterproof barrier which prevents the build-up of condensation and damp under tiles
  • Increases your property value, a badly waterproofed bathroom will detract from the value and deter potential buyers.

Applying Waterproof Coatings

A waterproofing layer is normally applied underneath the tiles that in most cases cover the surfaces of humid areas. It should withstand constant moisture and should also be durable and long-lasting. Weberdry elastic slurry series is an ideal solution for waterproofing surfaces in areas subject to permanent moisture. It is a two-component latex modified cementitious coating that protects a wide range of buildings and structural concrete components with excellent resistance to water and is especially recommended for waterproofing surfaces in humid areas to be covered with tiles, such as bathrooms, showers etc.

Sealant application

Silicone sealant looks like a tough but flexible rubber, it is used to seal virtually all cracks and holes between surfaces, such as between walls and floors, and all seams in a shower or around a tub. weberseal NS105 and NS135 are waterproof and durable silicone sealants that are suitable for sealing seams in bathroom, ensuring the bathroom resists the effects of water.
